Carotid stenosis - narrowing of the carotid artery
Treatment by a specialist
Carotid stenosis, a narrowing or calcification of the carotid artery, is caused by deposits on the vessel wall. Common causes are high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol and blood lipid levels, diabetes, smoking and genetic predisposition. This disease should be taken seriously as it significantly increases the risk of a stroke due to blood clots and embolisms in the brain. In addition, a pronounced narrowing or blockage of the artery can lead to reduced blood flow to the brain, which can also trigger a stroke.
Typical warning signs
- Symptoms of paralysis
- Visual field defects or visual disturbances
- Speech disorders
- Sudden feelings of weakness
Precise diagnostics are crucial in order to recognize the risk at an early stage. In my practice, we carry out detailed examinations of all arteries supplying the brain using the latest ultrasound technology. In addition to a precise medical history, the right medication is an essential pillar of treatment.
